Welcome. This site has one important links below- to view the current schedule. Only the site administrator ( Dr. Bahn) can make a change to the schedule.
Agreement
Coverage is only for our private practices. There will be no Emergency Room or hospital call
coverage involved. On-call doctors will provide full coverage, so that the primary physicians can sign out every night if they wish.
Any physician who is in practice and wishes to sign out must also take part in the on-call
rotation. We will not be covering any physicians who are not willing to be part of the on-call
rotation. Within a group practice, on-call rotation may be divided amonst those doctors as they see
fit. The reason for the strict posture is that there are a significant number of us who are part-time, older and/or non-surgical. It would be difficult (impossible) to establish criterea for coverage
without an equal participation in call.
When a physician is to be gone for the whole week, please let the on-call physician know ahead
of time so he/she can do the proper follow-up care and arrange time accordingly.
The covered physicians should cover themselves for recent post-ops or forseeable problems.
Covered physicians should make sure to emphasize to their patients that the on-call physician is
to be contacted for emergencies only. All participating physicians should include a message on their
answering or with their answering service that prescription refills can be handled the next work day
and not to contact the on-call physician for this purpose.A week of on-call coverage is from 8:00 am on Monday to 8:00 am on the next Monday. If a FEDERAL or major holiday (defined below) is involved on a Monday, the coverage continues until 8:00 am Tuesday.
HOLIDAYS
Holidays are agreed to be New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving and Christmas. Martin Luther King Day, Columbus Day, and Jewish Holidays
have not been included. If you are on call one of these dates and need it off, it should be very
easy to trade.
Once you have covered any of the major holidays (above) you shouldn't have to cover another until all of the other participating physicians have also covered a major holiday.
INSURANCE
If a patient is covered by an insurance or HMO in which your practice does not participate
you must make yourself available to provide care for the patient. If the patient signs a waiver and
the emergency care is not reimbursed by the patients insurance, you may bill the patient. Otherwise
the appointment will just be done as a service.
COMMUNICATION
A copy of patient encounters should be faxed or emailed to the primary doctor as soon as
possible after the visit. We will communicate about the on-call schedule primarily via email. For
this reason please make sure you have a valid email address for you.
MECHANICS OF THE SCHEDULE
The schedule is in alphabetical order.
A separate schedule runs in reverse alphabetical order, for coverage of the major holidays. This way each doctor will cover a major holiday every 2-3 years, and, barring any membership changes, you will be able to plan ahead for that coverage.
